I dreamt a cardboard rocket ...

a poem by Caroline Dunkin

I dreamt a cardboard rocket
It took me to the stars
I flew past many planets
and ended up on Mars

I met some friendly Martians
with eyes on long green stalks
They thought that I was very strange
eating with a knife and fork!

The Martians were inquisitive
and we talked into the night
about the Earth that I call home
and stories of my flight

The time had come for me to leave
and I boarded by trusty ship
I waved good-bye to the Martians
Wow! What a fantastic trip!

I've had such a wonderful adventure
No-one would ever believe
I can't wait till I travel again
on my brilliant cardboard rocket!
